SEDIMENT

Sediment

HD video, 14 min, stereo sound, colour, 2019

Sediment is a short poetic docu-fiction film that takes place between Iran and the Netherlands. Focusing on girls and women across the two cultural contexts, the film explores the spaces between difference and sameness, individuality and collective experience.

Despite their different social, economic and cultural environments, the women in the film reveal unexpected points of connection. At the same time, the film remains attentive to the very real divides that shape their experiences and positions within society.

Through its poetic and fragmented approach, Sediment visualises the gaps within stories that have been told and the gaps within our understanding of ourselves and one another. The film moves between two cultural landscapes, allowing similarities and differences to coexist without resolving them.
