Ephemeral Echoes

Ephemeral Echoes is an interdisciplinary audiovisual performance by Vida Kashani and Amir Komelizadeh that brings together moving image, sound, light, and live performance in an immersive spatial environment. This work invites audiences into a contemplative landscape where time slows down and alternative rhythms of living emerge.

Inspired by Bertrand Russell’s essay In Praise of Idleness, the project reflects on the accelerating demands of contemporary life and the increasing pressure to remain productive. Rather than proposing idleness as inactivity, Ephemeral Echoes explores it as a space for attention, reflection, imagination, and resistance.

The performance unfolds through a series of interconnected audiovisual chapters that move between turbulence and stillness, density and openness. Combining volumetric moving images, spatial sound, lasers, and choreography, the work dissolves the boundaries between cinema, installation, and live performance. Light becomes a performative material, shaping the space alongside sound and the moving body.

Rather than following a linear narrative, Ephemeral Echoes creates an experiential journey in which audiences navigate shifting emotional and sensory landscapes. The work asks what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to pause, when moments of stillness interrupt the relentless rhythm of production and open space for new ways of perceiving ourselves and the world around us.

The project premiered at Grand Theatre Groningen in May 2026 following earlier development phases, including a public try-out in 2024 and a work-in-progress presentation at Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival in 2025. Ephemeral Echoes continues touring in 2026 ands 2027.
