” Play for Public is a beautifully poetic narrative about the origins of a poem. The city where the action takes place is made to feel claustrophobic. The camera work is very competent and beautiful, and the editing connects harmoniously with this camera work: it is rhythmic, descriptive, searching. Hereby, the movie is a quest. The final one-take is an impressive piece of choreography of words, wandering, and role reversal. The poem is created, as it were, by the film itself. At the end, the full poem is brought forth and is read by another character, provoking feelings of making attempt after attempt, tedium, and being stuck.” (Jury report Noorderkroon 2022)
